• Name: Two-Socks • Alias: Socks • Sex: Female • Age: 5 years • Breed: Mexican Wolf
• Eye color: Hazel with some yellow. • Build: She has a light build, making her very small, but quick. • Fur color: A mixture of browns, reds, creams, and a little black. • Fur length/ texture: Her coat is long, not very long, but still long and one would find it is soft, but has places where the fur is coarse. • Height: 28” • Length: 4’ 3” • Weight: 63 lbs • Overall look: Two Socks is a small wolf—her form not fit for fighting, but for running. She is an avid part of a hunting team—being the one to force the prey back into the grasp of the pack. She is quite graceful in her movements—having a slight cat-like vibe about her in the sense. She has some muscle, but it isn’t much, and she doesn’t ever feel the need to use it. Her coat is a typical Mexican wolf pattern of browns, reds, creams, and some black. Her name comes from her having two white socks—as you would call them on a horse—on her front legs. The go from about the main (center) leg joint down. Her coat feels the way it looks—soft for the most part, but with coarse tips. She has a very sweet appearance, seeming vulnerable and young, but she holds her head high and firmly believes in the spirits of the Sioux people and their wolf companions. She is wise beyond her years it can seem, sometimes, when she is looking off into the distance—yearning to hear what the spirits want her to. • Other: She’s got a leather collar which cannot be easily taken off as it was put on her as a pup and she’s grown into it. Her left ear has been pierced and she’s got two feathers that are attached on the same string going through the hole that was pierced. She takes great care to make sure they stay neat—though it would be very difficult to get them out. The Sioux took great care in fashioning them. She has two scars across her nose from when she was young, as well.
• History: Two Socks was born into a small family of wolves living on a Native American reserve. The Sioux people were very welcoming to her and her family—her family having lived with them on the reservation for many generations. She was born into a little of four pups, her brother Little Eagle was the runt, and Two Socks was just a bit bigger than him. They bonded and protected each other from their other siblings, Big Wanderer and Young Warrior—both boys. Little Eagle grew ill when he was only a few months old, though, and he wasn’t strong enough to make it through the sickness and the Sioux people gave him a proper burial and let his spirit free to watch over them. Two Socks was left on her own to deal with her bullying brothers after that. A young Sioux girl took on Two Socks and provided for the pup—protecting her from the other pups including her brothers. Two Socks grew fond of the girl and tended to follow her around most of the time. The girl taught her the ways of the people mainly and encouraged her to stay around her mother to learn hunting and fighting.
Two Socks was still picked on by many of the males as she grew—being much smaller than the other females her age in the reserve. She grew bitter toward them and tended to snap at them—but her girl scolded her and she was taught to ignore the other males in time. There was one male that caught her heart. He was a wanderer—a fairly old male who would sometimes appear at the edge of the camp very regally. He spoke of many adventures with the white-people and what a horrid race they were—brutal to animals. He was considered by the Sioux their spirit guide and protector. He would only speak with Two Socks when he was around—telling her the most amazing tales and the Sioux regarded her as the chosen one. She would be their Spirit Guide when the male passed. Some of the others were jealous, but Two Socks was just confused. How could she not know such a thing? The spirits did work in strange ways however. They made her go off with him to learn and thus she accompanied him one day and did not return for a few months.
She learned many things on her journey with the male who had been dubbed No Eyes by the Sioux when he lived with them. As a pup he took longer than most to open his eyes and when he had he was blind. There was no particular reason, but when he was a year old he could see for the first time. His name stayed because he would often shut his eyes to see because it was more natural for him. She learned how to see with her whole body rather than just her eyes and she could feel the spirits around her for the first time. It was amazing. No Eyes took her to see the white-people and the strange things they built and controlled. She saw the tame dogs that did their every bidding and got hit around and pulled on ropes—it was a horrible sight.
She lived with No Eyes for 8 months altogether—coming away with a great respect for the wolf and a fondness for him. She wished to stay with him longer, but it was not possible—she had to return to her people as there was danger lurking. When she returned, Two Socks was greeted warmly by her fellow wolves and people. She was back for no more than a month before white-people came with their moving buildings and tame companions who were not kind to their fellow canines in the slightest. The wolves of the reserve held back their anger however—copying Two Socks’ calm attitude toward the tame wolves. No Eyes had taught her that patience is needed; her fellow wolves and Sioux must not see her panicking as it does not project well on the spirits.
After the white-people left the Sioux started to pack their things and Two Socks was beckoned to the leader’s tent. She didn’t understand everything, but she knew her people were leaving and they wanted her to stay here with the others. She refused and made a fuss, but she was reminded to stay calm and she left to sit by herself. No Eyes found her and they had a quiet talk about the situation and she went back to tell the others the situation. No Eyes was at her side for support. She explained all she knew and the others weren’t happy—protesting loudly, but one sharp bark from No Eyes silenced them. ”She is your chosen one—our people have confided in her to keep you all safe. They wish you to stay—could you ever go against their will?” No one wanted to contradict No Eyes and they were silent until Two Socks spoke, naming two very respectable wolves as the leaders of the new pack that would form here on the reserve and she turned to find No Eyes but he was gone. She searched for many days until she found him at the small pond on the reserve. He was very sad, it was clear in his entire body how he felt. Two Socks sat by him for a long while, the two saying nothing—just simply staring across the water. No Eyes was the first to speak. ”Two Socks—you are a truly remarkable wolf. You will have filled my place better than I could have hoped and I know I leave our friends in good hands. I am afraid it is my time now.” He stood and turned to leave. Two Socks hung her head low, but let him leave in peace. That night she lay very quietly, listening to the whispers of the spirits around her and she could hear his voice faintly and she cried herself very softly to sleep.
It wasn’t but a year later, when Two Socks was 4 years old that she came across No Eyes again in the same place she had last seen him. Their meeting was the same; she sat very calmly and quietly next to him—waiting for him to be ready to speak. ”Two Socks, the pack is in grave danger. The white-people are coming to destroy the lands. They will bring their tame companions and their weapons. You must be prepared to leave our homeland. It is the only way to save us my friend.” She nodded understanding and then turned to leave herself, and when she looked back he was gone. That night they left their homeland, chased by the white-people’s wolves—a few of the pack wounded by the animals and the weapons of the white-people, but the warning had come in time for everyone to make it out with treatable wounds, but it was a horrid experience. Two Socks still has flashes of that time. The pack settled far from the white-people, but Two Socks was never happy and with a small explanation and well-wishes from the alphas she left—the spirits staying faintly with her, No Eyes always staying by her side.
Thus she finds herself here—timid and afraid of these different wolves, but it feels right for her to be here, to help these wolves. She can feel No Eyes beside her, pushing her forward and confirming this is the right place for her to be now. She has much different views from these other wolves, but hopefully they will listen to a small, timid female who only wants to help.
• Personality: Two Socks is a very sweet wolf in nature. She enjoys the company of the Sioux and their fellow horse-people, though the only ones she has ever come by are the ones she lived with. She doesn’t enjoy being a leader. She will give her advice and stand as a mascot of sorts, but she would never be able to make up her mind about anything fast enough to be leader material. She can be quite the eccentric if you’ve never spoken with her and don’t understand or know where she’s come from. She tends to talk to herself a lot and to an unknown wolf who seems to be called No Eyes. It can get quite daunting at times. Two Socks is simply a very innocent wolf—not really understanding when people joke about her, but she learns every time and it won’t be long before she has come to understand the ways of the wolves around here and she lashes out at them in anger. She can’t stand when bigger wolves pick on the little ones, including her, and she’s liable to go off on you if she fully understands that she or some other wolf is being picked on.
Two Socks is very loyal and her promises are always kept to her best ability. She doesn’t quite understand lying and cheating as it wasn’t the way of her people or her kin—thus making her very innocent and pup-like at the age of 5. When she is sure of something, there is little that can be done to change her mind. In crowds, she doesn’t do quite too well, not being very social. She is much better with being alone to just sit and listen to the voices around her. She is at her best when she is alone or with, at most, 2 other wolves. She’ll do just about anything to cheer someone up, or to help them—hating to see suffering. She believes that she is meant to help the wolves of Breathe as best as she can—that’s why the spirits lead her here, away from her kin.
